Meet Onel Shamoon
I am Onel Shamoon, a Paralegal at Sterling Legal and a current Bachelor of Laws student at the University of Wollongong. My role allows me to support lawyers in preparing matters, conducting research, assisting with client care, and managing procedural tasks, all of which strengthen my legal knowledge and professional skill set.
My journey into law began with a strong interest in advocacy and a passion for justice. From an early stage, I was motivated by the idea of using the law not only as a set of rules, but as a tool to empower people and resolve complex issues. This led me to pursue a combined degree in Law at the University of Wollongong, where I am expected to graduate in 2028. In 2025, I began working as a Paralegal at Sterling Legal, gaining first hand experience in client care and legal practice.
Why I’m Passionate About Law
I am particularly drawn to family law and criminal law as both areas allow direct advocacy for people at vulnerable points in their lives. Family law is about guiding clients through deeply personal matters with fairness and care, while criminal law is about upholding rights, ensuring justice, and giving clients a voice in difficult circumstances. What I value most is the opportunity to build trust, provide clarity, and support clients when they need it most.
Why I’m Passionate About Family Law
Family law is deeply personal, it touches not just legal rights but relationships, children, and futures. I am passionate about this area because it allows me to combine legal knowledge with compassion. I see my role as more than resolving disputes: it is about establishing trust, building relationships, and walking alongside clients throughout difficult times with both professionalism and care.

Leadership roles and recognition during my school years shaped my commitment to discipline, teamwork, and resilience. These qualities continue to guide me in both my professional and academic pursuits. I am driven by the belief that law is not just about rules and procedures, it is about people. Each case or task is an opportunity to make legal processes clearer and to ensure that clients feel respected and supported.
Beyond the Law
Outside of my professional commitments, I value balance and discipline. I enjoy going to the gym, attending concerts, and listening to music, which keeps me energised and focused. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, which gives me perspective and motivation in both work and study.

What drives me is the challenge of turning responsibilities into opportunities for growth. Whether preparing legal materials, assisting a lawyer in a case, or supporting a client in distress, I am motivated by the responsibility of ensuring that people are guided with care, respect, and clarity.
