The Traffic Offenders Program is taken by offenders to reduce the likelihood of them committing further safety related traffic or alcohol offences.

The purpose of the program is to:

  • Highlight the seriousness of offences and punishments
  • Increase an offenders’ understanding of their responsibilities as a road user
  • The impact that traffic offences can have on the community and the
  • Teach offenders steps to take to avoid re-offending

Ultimately, a Judge or Magistrate in sentencing an offender will consider the completion of the program positively and may give credit, particularly as sitting the program is punishment in itself, attendance is considered as contrition and research has shown that offenders who have completed the program are less likely to re-offend.
